the camera project

the camera project is an exploration of how children perceive their environment. [...] each child was provided with a one-time use camera and asked to document their lives. there were no limitations placed on what the children could or could not photograph. after shooting all of the exposures, each child was asked to write a bit about themselves and what they photographed.
this project highlights the beauty of the world that connects us to one another, a beauty that is deep and surpasses the realm of aesthetics. source
Using PHP and MySQL a large amount of photos were re-sized and organized. A tagging system was also built from scratch to allow users to search for specific images in the site.

The first part of a top down 2D adventure game imagined, designed, and coded by myself with help on various artistic assets from a team of colleagues (Emily Robins, Ben Barnhart, James Reynolds, and Dan Davidson). Various audio clips and some sprites were taken from stock and free-use community websites.
(There is no preloader for Joey Boy's Great Adventure for Fulfillment currently, please wait to load.)
A tile based game engine was also designed and developed from scratch using Actionscript 3 to create this game. This includes health and item tracking systems, AI, world and map traversing, and a map editor. An example of the map editor is presented below. Use the arrow keys to change tiles, and space bar to output a map's value.

Mirror is a 3D puzzle/platformer indie game being created entirely by myself, Craig Spaeth. Mirror aims to explore themes of escapism while satiring the hegemonic adventure narrative of video games and cinema.
The gameplay revolves around two worlds, or two alternate dimensions, that the player can warp between in a matter of a split second. This allows the player to open new options in the narrative and discover new ways to solve puzzles.
The story follows the main character, Miranda, through the fantasy world Narcia. Miranda mysteriously awakes in Narcia after running away from home. Once in this new world Miranda struggles to accept the reality of her brother being drafted to war as she is hesitantly guided along a path to save Narcia from the destruction of a giant demon.
